About the Headphone Test
Engineered specifically for wired and wireless headphones, in-ear monitors (IEMs), and gaming headsets. Use calibrated reference audio to test driver matching, detect volume imbalance, and verify stereo separation.
Troubleshooting One Earbud Quieter or Muffled
Headphone driver imbalance is one of the most frustrating audio issues. If one side is quieter than the other, follow these troubleshooting steps:
1. Clean the Speaker Mesh
Earwax, sweat, and lint can block up to 80% of acoustic output. Remove silicone tips and gently brush the metal mesh with a clean, dry toothbrush.
2. Check OS Audio Balance
On iOS: Settings → Accessibility → Audio/Visual → Balance. On Windows: Settings → System → Sound → Device Properties → Left/Right volume sliders.
3. Reset Bluetooth Pairings
True wireless earbuds (TWS) can suffer master/slave desync. Place earbuds in their case, hold the reset button for 10 seconds, and reconnect.
4. Eject Sweat / Moisture
If earbuds got wet during workouts, use our Water Ejection Tool to vibrate out trapped moisture.

Frequently asked questions
Why is one of my earbuds quieter than the other?
Common reasons include: (1) Earwax buildup clogging the acoustic mesh, (2) Audio balance slider shifted in OS sound settings, (3) Bluetooth connection desynchronization (fixed by unpairing and re-pairing), or (4) Uneven driver degradation.
Does this test work on Apple AirPods and Galaxy Buds?
Yes. It works with all wireless earbuds (AirPods, AirPods Pro/Max, Galaxy Buds, Pixel Buds, Sony WF-1000XM series) and all wired 3.5mm/USB-C headsets.
How can I fix muffled audio in one earbud?
If an earbud sounds muffled due to sweat or water exposure, use our online Speaker Cleaner tool to run low-frequency vibrations that help dislodge trapped liquid. If due to wax, clean the earbud mesh gently with a soft, dry toothbrush.
Why does sound leak into the other ear during the left/right test?
Some Bluetooth headsets or operating systems have "Mono Audio" or "Crossfeed" enabled, which deliberately mixes audio channels. Check your device accessibility settings and disable Mono Audio.
